Since our founding in 2019, the Colorado Camps Network has become a recognized and respected voice in state policy conversations. We’ve worked with lobbyists, testified at the Capitol, collaborated with state departments, and—most importantly—helped shape laws and regulations that protect the sustainability of Colorado camps.

Key Milestones
Wage Law Exemption for Camps
Partnered with the Department of Labor to establish clear pay guidelines and exemptions for seasonal camp staff in COMPS Order #36. These standards continue to support camps financially and operationally.
2019
Advocated for and helped develop practical reopening guidelines during the pandemic, allowing most camps to operate at full capacity in 2021—something that may not have happened without our presence at the table.
2020 – 2021
Water Filtration Exemption
Secured a critical exemption for camps in HB22-1358, avoiding costly water filtration mandates irrelevant to most camp water systems.
2022
Successfully added small businesses, including camps, to Colorado’s FAIR Plan for property insurance—offering a safety net for those struggling to find or afford coverage.
2023
First CCN-Sponsored Legislation Passed
SB24-071 reclassified Seasonal Outdoor Adventure Day Camps under the more appropriate resident camp licensing framework, reducing administrative burdens.
2024
Licensing Reform & Influence
Became a key stakeholder in the revision of statewide child care and public health regulations, including the removal of unnecessary radon testing and immunization form requirements for out-of-state campers.
2024 – 2025
We remain active in ongoing conversations with the Colorado Department of Early Childhood, the Department of Public Health and Environment, and other agencies to ensure that proposed rules reflect the realities of running camp while maintaining high standards for health and safety.
